4th Annual
Farewell Bobby Fischer
New and Improved for 2011
Anybody who played in the 2010 Farewell Bobby Fischer, knows that the playing site was FANTASTIC, but at a personal loss of $700, I simply could not afford such accommodations for 2011. This year's prize structure is based on an anticipated 60 players! There are prizes for almost every "class" in both sections. Although the playing site will not be as spectacular as last year, the conditions for quality chess will be greatly improved. This year, you have your choice of schedules! Either a 2 day, or a 3 day schedule is available, whichever best fits your needs. There have been some concerns raised about playing on Sunday, but with two 1/2 point byes to use, you can still enjoy 5 out of 6 rounds, either on Saturday ( or Fri. and Sat. ) with your choice of fast or slow games.
For 2011, players in BOTH Sections can choose to compress their tournament into 2 days, or spread it out over 3 days, with longer time controls that are more conducive to quality chess. For those who don't like to take 45 minutes to work out a K and P ending, you have the option of 4 rather fast games with the 2 day schedule. For those who enjoy taking their time, the 3 day schedule is for you, with a more acceptable pace of quality chess, a truly fair amount of time for lunch, and competing in the trivia contest without having to scramble. Both schedules will merge for rounds 5 and 6, with those two games lasting up to 4 and 1/2 hours.
Simply having an U-1400 Section is an improvement! This has been provided for a number of reasons, not the least of which is, that it is nice to offer less experienced players the opportunity to play some rated games against other players of similar strength and skill. (Plus, I am still trying to balance out the sections !)
There will be numerous class prizes, as well as a "Top Female" and "Best Upset" in EACH section!
